Fix wedding video audio
Diffio fixes wedding video audio after the day: upload the ceremony or reception clip, and you get the same video back with the vows and speeches restored.

The officiant’s lav caught the wind. The best man turned away from the DJ’s mic. The camera at the back of the hall recorded the room more than the couple. Nobody can say it again, so restore the take you have and hear it next to the original before you deliver.
2 wedding recordings, before and after
Both samples are built from clean read speech and real recordings of wedding and outdoor crowds, so we know exactly what went in. Each was restored with Diffio 4.6 Pro on November 3, 2026. Press play, then switch versions. Your place in the clip stays the same.
Press play, then switch between Original and Restored. Your place stays the same.
Listen for: In the original, about 100 guests talk under the speaker and the hall smears every word. The restored speech is closer and drier, with the crowd out of it.
Sample made by playing clean speech (LibriTTS, CC BY 4.0) through a real measured lecture-hall impulse response (BUT Speech@FIT Reverb Database, CC BY 4.0) and mixing it with a real recording of about 100 guests at a wedding reception ("Crowd at a British wedding reception venue" by Pandos, Freesound, CC0). Restored with Diffio 4.6 Pro. Both clips are loudness-matched for playback.

How these comparisons were made
Each sample starts as clean speech from LibriTTS (CC BY 4.0), a reading of a public domain audiobook, mixed with real crowd recordings (CC0) and, for the reception, a real measured hall impulse response from the BUT Speech@FIT Reverb Database (CC BY 4.0). Building them this way means the problem in each one is known. We restored each once with Diffio 4.6 Pro and kept the restored speech with no background mixed in, and each version has one fixed volume change so both play at about the same loudness. The outdoor sample also has wind in its mix, but our automated listening check didn’t confirm the wind as a problem in it, so we only describe the crowd. Full credits and the sample record are published with the files.
Why ceremony and speech audio goes wrong
- Wind at outdoor ceremonies. A gust across a lav or camera mic is louder than any vow, and it rumbles under every word.
- A distant lav, or none. The officiant usually wears the mic, so the vows reach it from a few feet away, or only reach the camera at the back.
- Hall reverb. Churches, barns and ballrooms keep ringing after each word, and a camera mic across the room records more ring than voice.
- Crowd noise. At the reception, guests talk through the toasts, and the person speaking is often the quietest one in the room.
- Speeches through the PA. A toast on the DJ’s mic reaches the camera late and loud, bounced off the walls.
What Diffio fixes in wedding video
- Crowd noise under speeches, as in both samples above. The crowd goes to a separate background track, and the Background amount slider brings back laughter and applause when the moment needs them.
- Hall reverb and a distant mic, so the vows sound closer. More on removing echo from audio.
- Wind on outdoor ceremonies. Diffio removes wind from recorded speech; the more of the voice that survived the gust, the more comes back. See removing background noise from video.
- Music stays separate. The processional and the first dance go to the background track rather than being restored, so keep the original audio for the music.
Limits: if a gust or a cheer covers a word completely, there’s little of the voice left to restore. Two people speaking at once, like a couple saying vows together, stay together in one restored speech track. Results depend on the recording, so listen against the original before you deliver.
Video in, the same video back
Upload the camera file or an exported ceremony as MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV or WebM. Diffio restores the soundtrack and leaves the frames alone: no regrading, no upscaling and no change to the timing. You download the same video with the restored speech, or your mix, as its audio.
If you edit in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve, download the restored speech as a WAV instead. It runs the full length of the clip, so it lines up under the original in your timeline.
Each file can be up to 90 minutes and 2 GB. A long 4K ceremony file can pass 2 GB, so upload the ceremony section, a lower-bitrate export or the audio track on its own.
How to fix the audio in a wedding video
- Pick the source with the most voice. The officiant’s lav or a recorder at the lectern usually beats the camera mic. Upload whichever one the vows are clearest on.
- Upload the video or the audio. Diffio takes MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM video and MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC and OGG audio. Video works on every plan, including Free.
- Choose Diffio 4.6 Pro for wind, crowds and reverb. Diffio 4.6 Flash is faster and on every plan, and the Pro model is included in Basic.
- Compare the restored speech with the original on one playhead, and set the Background amount slider so the laughter and applause sit where you want them.
- Download the same video with the restored speech, or a WAV or MP3 for your timeline, on a paid plan.
Capture cleaner ceremony audio next time
- Mic the officiant and one partner. With a lav on each side, both sets of vows are close to a mic.
- Add a small recorder at the lectern for readings, and ask the DJ for a recording from the mixer for the toasts.
- Use windscreens outdoors. A furry windscreen on the camera mic and a lav tucked under clothing take the worst of a gust.
- Keep the camera mic as a backup, not the main source.
- Leave headroom for the loudest toast. Speeches get loud, and a shout that clips is harder to restore than one that didn’t.
Questions about wedding video audio
Can I remove wind sound from a video?
Yes, after the fact. Upload the video to Diffio and it restores the speech with the wind removed, then gives you the same video back. Where a gust covers a word completely, there’s little of the voice left to restore.
How can I remove wind noise after recording?
In a video editor, a high-pass filter around 80 to 120 Hz takes out the low rumble and a noise reduction effect does the rest. That works for steady wind but struggles with gusts. A speech restoration tool like Diffio separates the voice from the wind, which suits gusty outdoor ceremonies. Try both on your own clip.
How do I get wind noise out of video in Premiere Pro?
Premiere Pro’s Essential Sound panel has Reduce Noise and Reduce Rumble controls for dialogue clips. For heavy wind, restore the clip in Diffio, download the restored speech as a WAV and place it under the clip. It runs the full length, so it lines up.
What microphones don’t pick up wind noise?
None are immune. A lavalier worn under clothing and a shotgun mic in a furry windscreen handle wind best. A camera’s built-in mic and a bare phone mic pick up the most.
Will Diffio remove the music and the applause?
It separates them. Diffio returns the restored speech and the background as 2 tracks, and the Background amount slider mixes as much of the room, music and applause back in as you want.
Does Diffio change the picture or the timing?
No. Diffio restores the soundtrack and leaves the frames alone. The video you download has the same picture and length, with the restored speech, or your mix, as its audio. See removing background noise from video for more on video.
Can I fix the audio from a phone that filmed the vows?
Yes. Phone video is MP4 or MOV, and Diffio restores the speech in it the same way. A phone near the couple often has more voice than a camera at the back.
Is it free to try?
Yes. The Free plan includes 3 uploads, audio or video, with a 2-minute preview of each result on Diffio 4.6 Flash. Full playback, downloads and the Pro model start with Basic at $8 per month. See plans and limits.
Deliver vows people can hear
Upload your toughest ceremony clip and hear the restored speech next to the original. Results depend on the recording, which is why the first 3 are free.
